Jewellery History

You may or may not know that beads were used as a form of currency in Africa a long time ago....here is an example of a necklace made from them from Africantradebeads.com

Ancient Blue Glass mixed with Egyptian Faience beads
The origins of Faience beads date from around 40,000 years ago.

"First developed around 5,000 years ago in Egypt, Faience is a glazed, non-clay ceramic material and was the forerunner to glass, but is a much softer material.
Used by the Egyptians to imitate various much more expensive precious stones, it was known to them as tjehnet, a word they associated with the properties of shining, gleaming, or dazzling and was thought to glisten with a light, symbolic of life,
rebirth and immortality. "-Africantradebeads.com
